thank you so much for the responses.i was going through all the links you provided me.
but what i was looking for was something else.for eg..if you take apple,their 55 % of revenue comes frm ipod.before ipod they were on the verge of bleeding.another eg is coke..who was spending all their money on promoting their iconic brand "coke". what i am trying to prove is such companies should "destroy these brands and divest into many" -take the example of nestle..they have more than 35 products, uni lever..240+ products.. that to localized...(do we actually sit and remember all of them????)

thanx for your input.what you said make has complete logic and i am willing to accept that Innovation on iconic brands plays a vital role on companies long term strategy.
if possible ,please help me how to go about it....so that i could base my thesis with the logic u explained.
