Automobile Retail Audit

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hi everyone,

I am based in Saudi Arabia and work in an international advertising agency.
I handle a certain automobile brand for the dealers in Saudi Arabia.

I am searching for any automobile retail audit company that could provide me figures on total car sales / imports to saudi arabia with their breakdown (sedan, 4x4 etc.)

I have one source now - Auto strategies - but i would appreciate if you would recommend other research agencies as well.

thank you all

Gregg

    Hi

Saudi Arabia is the fifth largest market in the world for U.S. auto parts and service equipment. The Saudi population is growing at 3.5 percent annually, which has continually eroded the Saudi per capita GDP. As such, Saudis are cutting back on new car purchases, which resulted into a strong demand for car maintenance and auto parts.

The latest trade figures reveal that Saudi Arabia imported an average of 245,000 cars annually, both new and second-hand. The market for auto parts is
generally characterized as an open market without any restrictions on imports.

There is limited production of expendable parts, namely, air filters, oil filters, batteries, brake pads, and spark plugs. Although the Japanese cars are most popular, American manufacturers dominate the more dynamic second-hand market. Industry sources disclosed that, over the last four years, Saudi car dealers imported more second-hand cars than new cars from the United States. That situation has created an impressive market for auto parts, estimated to have reached almost $700 million dollars. Even though there are no restrictions on imported auto parts, American suppliers are encouraged to seek a distributor in this lucrative and growing
市场。在这个市场上,美国公司有edge in the supply of transmission, steering, suspension, and braking components and parts.

    o MARKET PROFILE
Saudi Arabia is the largest car market in the Near East. A declining per capita income and the high cost of new cars have caused the market for second-hand vehicles to improve. The age of the leads to major breakdowns in cars’ suspension and steering systems, thus enhancing the market for these auto parts. Industry sources believe that the Saudi market for automotive parts is expected to stay buoyant, reaching $655 million during 2002, excluding tires and OEM parts.
Many used vehicles imported from the U.S. are repaired and refurbished for resale. Although some spare parts are manufactured locally under license, the bulk of automotive parts are imported. A major threat to the Saudi auto parts industry, however, is the presence of a thriving market for counterfeit auto parts, which mainly comes from Southeast Asia. Manufacturers of counterfeit auto parts who indulge in obvious trademark infringements control perhaps 30 percent of the market and constitute a major challenge for the Saudi auto parts industry. However, the Saudi Government through the Saudi Arabian Standards Organization (SASO) and the Ministry of Commerce has been cracking down on
    counterfeits.

    Statistical Data

    Import Market Share

    Japan: 35%; U.S.A.: 25%; Germany: 15%; South Korea: 7%; Australia: 7%; France:
    6%; Others: 5%.

The number and models of the Saudi car population directly influence the mix
and market share of various third-country suppliers. Japanese manufacturers
hold a 35 percent share of the car spare parts market, German companies at 15
percent, Korean and Australian at seven percent each, and France at six percent.
Since the market provides for minimal controls on imports, many spare part
retailers import from various sources genuine, "commercial-type",
reconditioned, and copycats. Car parts are also sourced from India, China, and
    Taiwan.

    SALES PROSPECTS:
The best prospects in the Saudi auto parts industry are in the areas of transmission, steering, suspension, and braking components. Specifically, items such as shock absorbers, clutch assemblies, and steering wheel components will do well as opposed to other engine and body parts. As more technologically advanced and newly developed features are included in automobiles, market demand for car spare parts will also evolve. Demand for electronic fuel injection systems, electronic-no-point distributors, ABS braking system, front-wheel McPherson strut bar, and various parts for DOHC engines will improve as newer car models unfold in the Saudi market.
